Transferring Files

HomSoft enables you to transfer files between the Homer and the PC, either via RS232 or CAN Bus. The following procedures assume that HomSoft is running in your PC and connection between the PC and the Homer has been established.

Sending Files to Homer

To send (upload) files from your PC to the Homer, proceed as follows:

  • Click the Tools|Send to Homer menu item. A dialog window titled Send Files to Homer appears.

  • In the File Type box, pick the item representing the files you wish to transfer. If, for instance, you want to update Homer configuration files, pick the item named “System config files (*.cfg)”.

  • Browse for the files you wish to send to the Homer. For example, if you had downloaded some configuration files from the Homer to User Folder and modified then, they will be found in a folder like

c:\Users\<username>\S-Team\HomSoft

New files may also be delivered to you by other means (e.g., e-mail or USB flash drive).

  • Select all files you wish to transfer.

  • Click Open. Now the files start to be transferred to the Homer. After completion, a Pass/Fail report appears.

Notes:

  • The new files will be accepted only after restarting the Homer (HomSoft must also be restarted to recognize new Homer settings).

  • Tun.mem file is permitted to be transferred only by a reduced-functionality HomTool version of HomSoft. This serves as a protection against overwriting Tun.mem by accident. (Valid for SW versions starting 4050–54.)

  • Hom.mem file, being strictly individual, is declined to be transferred if it belongs to a different Homer device. (Valid for SW versions starting 4050–54.)

  • A better procedure for *.mem files than merely sending them to the Homer is employing the Reinstall procedure. The latter can ensure that the files will be updated for the purpose of the Homer Reset procedures as well. The FileList.txt for the Reinstall should contain lines such as:

[Homer Reinstallation Filelist]

HOM.MEM=C:\SRV\HOM.MEM

HOM.MEM=C:\SRV\FACT\HOM.MEM

HOM.MEM=C:\SRV\USER\HOM.MEM

TUN.MEM=C:\SRV\TUN.MEM + MOTORS

TUN.MEM=C:\SRV\FACT\TUN.MEM

TUN.MEM=C:\SRV\USER\TUN.MEM

Upgrading Server Program

Each HomSoft version is good for control of Homer units with matching internal firmware, notably the version of the Server program SrvHo.exe. (The optimal Server version can be found after opening the Help|About window.)

If a mismatch is detected, the warning button appears on the standard toolbar (Fig. 15). On clicking this button, HomSoft will give you details of the mismatch and, depending on the situation, will prompt you to either install a newer version of HomSoft, or to upload a new version of Server to the Homer.

You can also upload a Server manually at any time. To do so, proceed as follows:

  • Click the Tools|Update Server menu item. A file open dialog box titled Send Server to Homer appears.

  • Locate the new SrvHo.exe file. With HomSoft installed, the file may reside in a folder like

c:\Program Files (x86)\S-Team\HomSoft\Ver5004\Server

A new Server may also be delivered to you by various means (e.g., e-mail, a USB flash drive).

  • Click  Open . Now the file transfer to the Homer begins; it may take some 20 seconds. After completion, a Pass/Fail message appears.

The new Server will not be activated until restarting both the Homer and HomSoft. This will be done automatically after clicking  OK  in the Pass/Fail message dialog. You can switch the Homer OFF and ON manually as well.

Notes:

  • Alternatively, you can proceed as described in Sending Files to Homer.

  • A better procedure for SrvHo.exe file than merely sending it to the Homer is employing the Reinstall procedure. The latter can ensure that the file will be updated for the purpose of the Homer Reset procedures as well. The FileList.txt for the Reinstall procedure (including User Reset) should contain lines such as:

[Homer Reinstallation Filelist]

SRVHO.EXE=C:\SRV\SRVHO.EXE

SRVHO.EXE=C:\SRV\USER\SRVHO.EXE

Loading Files from Homer

To download files from the Homer to your PC, proceed as follows:

  • Click the Tools|Load from Homer menu item. A file save dialog box titled Load Files from Homer appears.

  • In the Save as type box, pick the file you wish to transfer. Now, the procedure slightly differs depending on whether you want to download one of the predefined files (Hom.cfg, Tun.cfg, Rs232.cfg, Can.cfg, SrvHo.exe), or any other file that you know resides in the Homer device.

  • If, for instance, you wish to download the predefined Homer configuration file:

    • In the Save as type box, pick the item “Homer config (Hom.cfg)”.

    • Do not edit the File name box.

  • If you wish to download any other file that you know resides in the Homer device, and you know its name, for instance the Start.cfg file:

    • In the Save as type box, pick the item “Any file (*.*)”.

    • In the File name box, type the name of the file you want to download; in our example it is “Start.cfg”.

  • Browse for the folder on your PC to which you wish the downloaded file to be copied. The dialog may look as shown in Fig. 24.

  • Click  Save . Now the file starts to be downloaded from the Homer. After completion, a Pass/Fail report appears.
